MMA or Mixed Martial Arts is the fastest growing
Knowing how to fight is essential. Mixed Martial Arts is a sport, like any other, with rules, regulations,
restraint and discipline.
Put all the Martial Arts training styles together and you have: MIXED MARTIAL ARTS. Mixed Martial
Arts (MMA) combine all the styles of martial arts training into one package....learning how to fight.
Mixed Martial Arts is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of
fighting techniques, from a mixture of martial arts traditions and non-traditions, to be used in
competitions. MMA could consist of Boxing, Kickboxing, Karate, Krav Maga, Hand to Hand Combat
(H2H), Muay Thai, Grappling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Wrestling, Judo, Taekwando, Ninjitsu, Aikido,
Hapkido, Sambo, Thai Boxing, Western Boxing, Savate, Jeet Kune Do, Karate , Kempo, Kendo, San
Shou, Wushu,Kung Fu or any other fighting technique.
The rules allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground.
Takedowns are also allowed. These rules are adopted for professional MMA from the very well know
international organisation UFC and then customised for our amateur fighters. All rules are governed by
a national body mandated to regulate MMA.
These classes are structured to give all age groups the ultimate safe training environment.
What SHIDO can offer you and the benefits of training MMA:
By training MMA we will build confidence in you. When you know how to fight your mind is a
little calmer and a little more relaxed. When you know how to throw a punch, break an arm, or choke
someone unconscious there isn’t too much threat of physical confrontation. And if there is threat, it is
easier to walk away.
Training MMA will teach you discipline. As with any sport, MMA requires discipline. It teaches
discipline of the mind and body. Training MMA teaches the discipline of eating right, sleeping right, and
Training MMA is an excellent physical workout. Sparring (Boxing practice during training) or
grappling (wrestling or ground-fighting practice) for 3-5 minute rounds is absolutely brutal cardio, which
is why fighters are usually in top notch physical condition.
Training MMA will teach you self defense. If the need should ever arise you will be able to defend
yourself against would be attackers.
Training MMA is a huge stress reliever. After a session of training, when you are completely
drenched in sweat, tired and sore, ready for a big meal and sleep, there can be no more room for
Camaraderie. When training at an MMA gym you will meet a whole bunch of people with similar
interests as you.
