ABOUT US

SHIDO Martial Arts is situated in Centurion, Pretoria and has been operating since 2009. We are one of South Africa’s leading Kickboxing and Fitness training facilities and we have produced over 50 martial art champions in various martial art styles. We offer a variety of classes that are designed to suit all levels, whether you are a beginner or an advanced athlete.

At SHIDO we believe in using each training session to forge ourselves into better people, we focus on using our skills, physical training and participation in tournaments - for those that want to - to improve our character and strengthen ourselves mentally and physically. SHIDO's ultimate goal is to help each student reach their full potential in all areas, physically, mentally, and emotionally.  Our philosophy is that physical skill will eventually fade as we age, but our character will remain. The true purpose of a SHIDO martial artist is to use our training and competition to cultivate the 15 virtues of SHIDO within themselves.

"Iron is full of impurities that weaken it, but through forging, it becomes steel and can be transformed into a razor-sharp sword. Human beings develop in the same fashion." - O'Sensei Morihei Ueshiba

When you train at SHIDO, you will become part of the SHIDO family. We are all part of a family that strives to be better today than we were yesterday. When we are on the mats at training, we help each other to learn and grow, and we support each other as we face the obstacles and challenges that life and our training throws at us. It is our belief that by conquering these challenges, we grow and evolve. SHIDO OWNER AND HEAD INSTRUCTOR

Sensei Morné Lotter is a well-respected figure in the combat sport industry. Having been in the martial art industry for over 20 years, he has extensive experience in multiple martial arts, with his field of expertise being K1 Kickboxing. His martial art journey started with Karate in 1997 and after that, his passion for combat sports deepened, leading him to transition to Muaythai and Mixed Martial Arts in 2007, where he earned multiple "Knockout of the Night" awards before ultimately focusing on Kickboxing.

From a coaching perspective, he is known for his in-depth technical style of teaching which is based on various martial art philosophies. His goal was to experience and compete in as many martial art styles as possible to learn more about their philosophies and how they approach combat. This journey allowed him to gain valuable insights into the philosophies and combat strategies of various styles. Throughout the years, he has competed in over 10 different martial art styles and trained with top coaches from across the globe.

Being an industry leader and pioneer, Sensei Morné is the current President of WKU K1 South Africa, the national governing body for K1 Kickboxing under the World Kickboxing Union. His innovative approaches and solutions played a pivotal role in the growth of the sport, which includes creating an extensive curriculum for K1 and a unique framework that combines psychology and combat sport explaining how different personalities approach combat.

MORNE LOTTER

"Each day at SHIDO will strengthen your body and mind and teach you more about yourself. Your true opponent on the martial art journey is not someone outside of you, which might sound paradoxical. Each opponent that you face is merely an opportunity to conquer your true opponent... yourself. Once you conquer that, the opponents outside of you have no power over you." - Sensei Morné Lotter

SHIDO FAMILY

We don’t have the “every man for himself” mindset; we are a family that not only trains together but stands together. As we push each day to grow into a stronger version of ourselves and reach our personal goals, we support and encourage those around us to do the same, and once they reach their goals, we celebrate with them like it's our own!

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US

“Honestly the best place for one to grow and master the art.  Started with SHIDO not so long ago but already I am a different person than I ever was, the coaches are the best at what they do and the team or should I say family is simply awesome.
